Visit the Biennale Architettura 2023

April 2023

As outlined on the page entirely dedicated to this event, the Venice Biennale is a world-renowned institution that has been promoting new trends in the contemporary arts for more than a century, offering a vast program of exhibitions, performances, training and research.

The Biennale Architettura is taking place from Saturday 20 May to Sunday 26 November 2023 (pre-opening on 18 and 19 May) and is curated by architect, architecture professor and writer Lesley Lokko.

Today’s article wants to be a brief introduction to the event, and to provide you with a few suggestions on how to spend a day at the Biennale and the wonderful gardens surrounding its pavilions and our hotel.

The Biennale Architettura 2023: The Laboratory of the Future

This year the event will be entitled The Laboratory of the Future and it’s all about embracing change and imagination. For the first time the spotlight will be on Africa and its diaspora. The visit begins at the Central Pavilion at the Giardini. Here, under the name of Force Majeure, 16 studies that represent a distillation of African and diasporic architectural production have been brought together.

It then continues to the Arsenale complex, with the section Dangerous Liaisons alongside with the Curator’s Special Projects. In both spaces there will be works by young African and diasporic “practitioners”, the Guests from the Future, whose work directly confronts the two themes of the Exhibition, decolonization and decarbonization, providing their personal vision on the future.

A break in nature

Visiting the Biennale and staying at Hotel Indigo Venice also means exploring Venice’s greenest and most peaceful areas, which ensure authentic and at times unexpected glimpses of the city, out of the main touristic tracks.

As in our article dedicated to Unexpected Venice: discovering parks and gardens, our hotel is located in the greenest area of the city. Only a few steps from the hotel entrance you will find the Parco delle Rimembranze. While, a little further north, after a few minutes’ walk, you will reach the largest green space in the city: the Giardini della Biennale.

What better place to relax after visiting the Biennale? The season is also ideal for a picnic with friends.
